Trump’s Choice May Cost Women Ours.

 In America

Since Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his resignation from the Supreme Court, we’ve been waiting to hear who Trump would nominate for our next Supreme Court Justice — a choice that will shape the future of our country for decades, even generations to come.

And last night, Trump revealed his pick: Brett Kavanaugh.

The fact that Kavanaugh holds deeply conservative views isn’t much of a surprise to anyone. But that doesn’t make him any less dangerous to our country, our rights, and our future. Kavanaugh is a conservative ideologue who threatens to repeal Roe v. Wade, undermine protections for the LGBT community, keep healthcare out of reach of millions, attack workers’ rights, and fundamentally reshape the lives of millions of Americans.

And on top of that, Kavanaugh holds deep reverence for the seat of the President, indicating in 2009 that impeachment processes are a distraction from the important job of the Presidency — so sitting Presidents shouldn’t be sued, prosecuted, or investigated while in office.

He sounds like a perfect Justice for a President trying to keep his deeply conservative base … and stay out of prison.

Trump’s Supreme Court pick was about one thing and one thing only: protecting Donald Trump. By nominating a Justice who will almost certainly defer to his Presidential power and overturn Supreme Court precedent to promote his conservative ideology, Trump is using his position to help himself out — and sacrificing the rights of millions of Americans for generations in the process.

While Trump’s choice of Kavanaugh may have been an act of self-preservation, for Republican leaders like Paul Ryan, it’s a second chance at repealing Roe v. Wade — and for women across our country, it’s a threat to our rights. Trump’s choice may cost American women ours.

I’m ready for a fight. Are you with me?

Sign my petition calling on the Senate to protect Roe v. Wade by rejecting Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

In solidarity,

P.S. Republican leaders like Paul Ryan have been waiting for an opportunity to repeal Roe v. Wade, and as a Member of Congress, I’ll do everything I can to make sure they don’t get that chance. Chip in to my campaign today to help replace Paul Ryan with a progressive woman who will always support our right to choose.
