Our Rights Are Being Stripped Away

 In America

It has been an exceptionally hard month for me.

There have been a lot of difficult months since Trump took office. As you know, his election as President was one of the big reasons I decided to run for Congress in the first place.

But this month, I realized more than ever how harmful and long-lasting the actions of this administration are going to be. And how much more could go wrong if we don’t act soon to put checks in place to stop him.

In just this past month, we’ve seen the Supreme Court rule:

-against voting rights;

-against workers’ rights;

-against women’s reproductive health and agency;

-to uphold Trump’s Islamophobic travel ban;

-and in favor of businesses wanting to discriminate against our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

And that’s just in one month.

We’re a year and a half into the Trump era, and we’re seeing our rights stripped away more intensely and more quickly than many of us imagined.

And now, with another Supreme Court Justice pick for Trump on the horizon, we’ll likely be seeing the effects of his hateful, alt-right ideology for decades to come.

We can’t control everything that’s happening in the world right now, but here’s something we can do right now to make change in our own communities: get involved. We can organize at the local and state levels, we can support groups and individuals who are doing good work to help marginalized communities, and we can vote in diverse voices who will fight Trump’s agenda and do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

As a Member of Congress, I will do everything in my power to serve as a check on the Trump administration. I’ve worked my whole life to make my community a better, more inclusive, and more respectful place. Now, I’m running to serve my community at the next level — Congress — at a time when strong and diverse voices are desperately needed in leadership.

In solidarity,

Cathy Myers
